-- February 12, Mexico City
Margarita Zavala is the wife of the newly-elected President of Mexico, Felipe Calderón. Her first public appearance since the election was at our Meet Me in Miami movie premiere in Mexico City. Originally, she intended to stay for only 15 minutes. Instead, she not only spoke at the press conference for 10 minutes but also stayed for one and a half hours and personally greeted, hugged, or kissed every child at the event. This is a woman who obviously cares deeply for her country and especially for the less fortunate.
Margarita Zavala was a member of the Mexican Legislature serving from 2003-2006. She and Felipe have three children. She is an attorney and currently serves as the president of an advisory board for DIF (el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia or the Integral Development of the Family). DIF is a government agency that helps to develop and strengthen families in Mexico.
