Fairgrounds Field , LA -- December 27, 2007
Athletes are often praised for giving 110% in the game. At the Lift Up America Independence Bowl Food Distribution, several Colorado Buffalo football players really did go the extra mile or two. Player participation in the food distribution was voluntary, but the ENTIRE team showed up to help!
"I want to relay one story of an elderly gentleman from one of the surrounding communities who arrived by himself looking for assistance. He lived two miles from the site and had heard that food was being distributed. Three Colorado players took matters into their own hands and offered to carry the boxes two miles back to his home and began the trek. Shreveport Police intervened and offered to load the food into a vehicle and transport him home. With a police escort, the players loaded the food in a Bowl courtesy-vehicle and were escorted by Shreveport Police back to the gentlemen’s home. The players carried the boxes into the man’s home for him."
- Joe Darwin, 2007 Independence Bowl Chairman
